Sokudo Training

Sokudo: Japanese for rate, speed, velocity.

Mediocre is not an option


Sokudo Training is your home for strength, speed and power training. Here you will find a wealth of training resources.


With Sokudo Training you won’t find gentle, mediocre fitness information. We specialise in extreme fitness, pushing the limits of human potential. In contrast, Sokudo is designed for you to start at any level and forge yourself into a strong, fast, powerful and durable machine.


WARNING: Before you go any further, please understand that the training you’re about to undertake is not easy. It takes (and develops) a high level of mental toughness and the willingness to dig deep and push yourself further than you’ve gone before.


Sokudo Training Principles

Sokudo Training places emphasis on strength, speed and power, the three components of fitness that make the difference in both sport and in life. But Sokudo Training goes deeper than that. The following are the Sokudo Training Principles, in order of priority.

Durability

Durability is foremost in being an effective athlete and human. Durability is the ability to withstand physical and mental stress and resist disease, illness and injury. This is priority number one. This is achieved through: foundational strength - the base strength that everything else is built upon; mobility - mobility is the ability to move freely and meditation/focus - drills of extreme focus, visualisation and mindfulness.

Versatility

Versatility is developed through covering all components of fitness and possessing competent ability in all areas. Run a marathon, deadlift 4x your body weight etc.

Specialisation

In contrast to versatility, don’t be a generalist, commit to something specific and aim to develop that to the highest possible level. Be versatile, but pick a specialty.

Human Potential

Most people only ever explore a small percentage of what they’re capable of. What you currently believe is the upper limit of your potential is a fair way below what it actually is. The human potential principle aims to unmask at least 25% greater capacity than what you currently believe you possess.

About Me

My name is Chris Lyons. I have been in the fitness and sports coaching industry for 15 years in various capacities. During my high school years I competed at a state and national level in 100m, 200m, triple jump and long jump. I also played rugby union, with a particular interest in rugby 7s. Shortly after high school I was qualified as a fitness trainer/personal trainer. I have worked in gyms as a personal trainer, working with athletes, kids as young as five, elderly people and everyone in between.

Having a particular interest in all things speed related my whole life, I became a sprint training specialist in 2011 and have maintained this focus ever since. I have spent my time since then developing systems for high-level athletes in team sports as well as track and field and sprint based fitness programmes for the non-athlete looking for fitness training with a coach, not just a trainer.

Outside of sprinting and coaching people I’m an adventurer. I will try anything at least once, having jumped from planes, climbed mountains, kayaked through some interesting places, long distance ocean swimming and martial arts.
