We all know Nelson Mandela (AKA Mandiba). He was imprisoned for 27 years for speaking his mind politically at a turbulent time in South Africa. After spending these many years in prison, 18 years of which was hard labour, he was freed and later elected president of the country that oppressed him.
Now some people may not agree 100% with Mandela for whatever reason. I understand that but it cannot be denied that he is probably one of the most influential people that ever lived.
I have decided to send you an excerpt of a speech he made in 1994, which is four years after he was released from prison on Robben Island. This speech was part of a speech he gave after being elected president of South Africa...
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
The above speech by Nelson Mandela was orignally written by Marianne Williamson who is the author of other similar material.
WOW, what powerful words from a man who truly lives what he believes and has fought for a cause with more conviction than any other human being that comes to mind.
I want you to really consider what these words mean. Don't just read it and think "yeah wow, big deal, some more inspiring words, I've heard them before". Think about what they mean to you, this small speech has a profound message: You ARE big enough to make an impact, if everyone would just think the same way, the world would be a much different place.
The world needs innovation and people to step up and take responsibility for larger causes. We are in an age were we are set to wipe out planet earth with global warming and increasing famine and plague. The world, people, your own society and even family needs you. We need everyone of you to play a larger game and STEP UP and live by the Richard Branson maxim; "Screw it, lets do it". There is always a way, it's just a matter of being creative when resources seem scarce. This is true for any endeavour you may wish to embark upon.
Something to think about, I mean really think about. Then, of course, live by what you believe and take a stand for a cause, whatever it may be for you.
