As a Man Thinketh

We’ve all heard the saying; as a man thinketh so he shall become. Sound’s very profound doesn’t it? But what does it mean? it refers to the law of attraction in a way, but also like the principle of the self-fulfilling prophecy.

Lets look at this from a bigger picture. As a child you grow up in a sports-oriented family, everyone is an athlete. Your brother wins first place in all the track events at school, your father was a top soccer player etc.

You grow up competing in various sports because it’s just the natural thing to do, you don’t know any different. You win a few events, excel in a few sports early on thanks to the encouragement and expectation of your family and their like-minded friends. After all, it’s really not a matter of physical ability at this early stage, it’s more a matter of which kid has the belief and encouragement.

From here you are given more feedback that tells you that you’re outstanding at sports. Already you had that belief but this confirms it further, which leads still further to greater results, which makes the belief stronger and so on. It becomes a cycle.

It’s only natural that you would believe you are good at sports and actually fulfil that belief because, well, you are. Why? As a man thinketh so he shall become. But it could go the other way too. You might have grown up in an abusive family where relationships never worked well. This leads to the belief that all relationships eventually come a messy end. Then lo and behold, it comes true, which further confirms the belief, which leads to more of the same. That’s how this works.

Are any of your beliefs true? Yes they are, they’re true for you because you have been conditioned to think that way and even provided constant evidence that it’s true. This may sound very Freudian to you. It is and it isn’t. Sigmund Freud (Sickman Fraud) was somewhat correct in saying that patterns are created in childhood due to mummy issues or whatever, however that’s not what matters really. There is no way to change what happened to you as a child, you can’t go back and choose a different upbringing. What really matters is the pattern that is occurring in the here and now.

So as a man thinketh really applies to your current thought and behaviour patterns. If you have certain consistent thoughts, beliefs and actions you are likely manifesting anything that resonates with that pattern.

As a man thinketh. How does it apply to me and how can I create thoughts that pull me in the right direction?

First of all you need to eliminate any crappy beliefs that don’t serve you. If you believe that in order to do what you love you have to accept being broke, you need to change it. This will only lead to behaviour that fulfils that belief. How do you change a belief? One of the easiest ways is to challenge it. Challenge any limiting beliefs by finding real examples that contradict that belief. Once you change a belief and replace it with something else your behaviour generally begins to align with the new pattern.

Change your habits and consistent actions. Your consistent actions and behaviours are what lead you to manifest your thoughts. If you believe certain things and have a thought pattern that is not empowering you will always make decisions on a daily basis that are consistent with them. These actions need to be changed. little by little you need to weed out habits and consistent actions that hold you back. Gradually all the little things lead to enormous results.

Lastly you need to be 100 percent clear and certain of the direction you want your life to go. Have some balls and choose your own outcomes, don’t be ruled and owned by others. Get really clear on what it is you want. This applies to the short term and the long term. Every outcome should be consciously chosen by you. It’s only when you are completely clear that you will know what actions, behaviours, thoughts and beliefs are appropriate.

So yeah, as a man thinketh so he shall become. As Christopher Howard says, “you can’t not think about what you don’t want to think about without thinking about it, think about that for a moment”. All of your consistent thought, beliefs and actions are what have created the life you now live. In order to have a different and better one from now on you can’t do it all the same and expect it to change. Things need to be different and they need your conscious input. You must create it.
