Coordination Training
Coordination training involves the use of multiple body systems and movement patterns to form individual movements and skills necessary for specific tasks. The conditioning of coordination is essential to a certain degree in every individual and athlete. Coordination picks up where other components have left off. The application of strength for example requires adequate coordination and an efficient sequence of muscle contraction in order to be effective at moving a specific load. We focus on two areas of coordination. Those two areas are⦠- Coordinated Movement: Coordinated movement is what generally springs to mind when referring to coordination in practice. This involves the ability to combine several distinct movement patterns into one movement. A perfect example is hand-eye coordination such as in juggling.
- Synergistic Muscle Coordination: This involves the efficient sequence of muscle recruitment such as when lifting an awkward object. Olympic lifting is a form of training requiring enormous amounts of synergistic muscle coordination. When you perform an exercise such as the snatch, you need to recruit muscles in a manner that allows for a complete and efficient movement without dropping it on your head. The more muscular coordination you have the better able you are to lift heavier weights before even increasing in strength. Machine weights are a counter-example, meaning they are exercises that require very little coordination of muscles in order to lift more weight due to the control the machine gives you over the movement.
Coordination training is approached in many of the methods used by Personal Evolution. The first being coordinated movement. This is trained by performing varying degrees of difficult movements and drills such as gymnastics, parkour and ball sports. It is basically a skill-related domain. The second is synergistic muscle coordination, which is approached through the employment of functional training methods such as difficult weight lifting techniques. This is utilised with great attention to detail in the application and conditioning of efficient technique.
