Foundational Conditioning is the term that most describes the Personal Evolution physical conditioning method. It means variance and development of foundational qualities that can be transferred into the widest range of tasks and challenges.
The Personal Evolution method is not about establishing a “perfect” routine. On the contrary, the development of routine leads to weak links due to the limited nature of stimuli. The Personal Evolution method is aimed at producing maximal adaptation to the broadest range of patterns. The breadth of stimulus in all conventional programmes is the limit to which adaptation will occur. The Personal Evolution method aims to avoid this limitation.
Hierarchy of Concern
The Personal Evolution method aims at focusing on a hierarchy of concern for the development of complete fitness and psychological development. The hierarchy is structured as follows…
Psychology: Conditioning of necessary psychological qualities to support development in all other capacities.
Diet: Diet lays the chemical and molecular foundations for life.
Metabolic Conditioning: This is the capacity of each of the three metabolic pathways. These are aerobic, lactic acid and phospho-creatine.
Body Awareness and Control: The functional capacity to move one’s own body through space using balance, coordination, strength, speed and power.
External Control: The control of external objects through weight lifting and other strength work requiring heavy objects. This also refers to throwing and other athletic skills.
Athletic Prowess: Mastery of skills in a competitive environment.
Foundational Conditioning is the master principle behind the Personal Evolution method. Without foundations everything else will suffer.
