Physical Vitality

Physical vitality, health and fitness are something that I have found to be a necessary part of everyone's life. I began studying this subject in great detail many years ago. I became qualified as a personal trainer and ran a personal training business.

This was my path to the material I teach today.

I have worked with many people from all walks of life and there is one distinct pattern I have noticed. I have noticed that those with higher fitness, health and physical vitality are the same ones who achieve more in every other aspect of their lives.

So does that mean you should go to the gym for hours a day? Of course not. On the contrary, I believe you should make exercise a part of your life for the long term. In order to do that you need to want to do it, it needs to be enjoyable, not a chore.

Physical vitality is often neglected these days because people tend to get busy and can't seem to find the time to invest in themselves. The truth is, you will not have the energy to follow through on your life goals with enough intensity if you have a lack of physical vitality.

I realised a long time ago that physical vitality and fitness were an important part of life, even for those who are not the "gym junkie" type. By the way, notice how I use the term physical vitality. That's because it is more applicable and doesn't just apply to athletic fitness.

So why is physical vitality, health and fitness important? Why should you include it in your life? The simple fact is that everything you do is influenced by what you put into it. The people who associate with you, the quality of your work, what you put into your relationship etc.

Think of it this way, who is going to get the most out of an opportunity and work at it with more motivation, an apathetic, overweight person with constant fatigue or someone with drive and physical vitality? I think you know the answer to that one.

So what can we do about it? What can we do to access the power of physical vitality? Well for one, we need to get clear on what physical vitality actually is.

What is physical vitality?

Many believe that if they are fit and athletic then they will feel energised and automatically achieve overall health. This is possible and a lot people who become athletes are quite healthy but you can be fit without actually being healthy and still lacking physical vitality.

Physical vitality is about having the physical capabilities and the "emotional juice" in one package. It's not about being pressured and feeling that we need to spend half our lives exercising. It's about having a mind and body that match.

Have you ever met someone with a great body and a shit attitude? Of course you have, we all have. What about someone who is a warm, inviting, intelligent person but has barely got the energy to use any of it? They exist too. Wouldn't it make sense to have the mind and body in balance?

Physical vitality is about having the right attitude towards your own body and your own mental health. Don't over do it, don't go all out and try and become Mr or Mrs Universe right from the start.

My advice would be to begin exercising or even just participate in a physically active sport or hobby and enjoy the benefits. Of course, I have many recommendations for exercise and training that will enhance results on your quest for physical vitality.

Keep an eye on this page for more links to other articles I have written on the topic of health, fitness and physical vitality.
